1. How do I know whether my microwave oven is involved in this recall?

Please follow these steps to determine if your unit is affected by this recall.

First step is to look at the manufacture date listed on the serial number label inside your unit. If you unit was manufactured in January 2009, February 2009, March 2009, April 2009, May 2009, or June 2009 your unit may be affected by this recall. If your unit was manufactured in July 2009 or later, your unit is not affected.

Second, if your unit is manufactured within the January 2009 to May 2009 time frame, then you need to look on the Cooking Guide Label located on the top left of the door frame when the door is opened. If there is a black Samsung logo attached on the label, your unit has already been modified and it is not affected by the recall. If there is no Samsung sticker attached, then your unit is affected by the recall.

If your unit was manufactured in June 2009, you need to check the serial number to see if you are in the affected range. Use the chart below to determine if your serial number is within the affected range.

(Refer to 8th and 9th digits of serial number)
Brand Model Number The 8th letter and the 9th digit in Serial number

  2. How do I find my model number and serial number?

Your model number and serial number can be found on the inside label (left hand side inside the microwave oven cavity).

  3. Why is this microwave oven being recalled?

On some units, a capacitor may have been inadvertently put in the incorrect location. As a result, there is some small possibility that an installation bolt can contacts the terminal on the capacitor of the ventilation motor on some installations. In most cases, the result would be that the fan motor simply doesn’t work upon installation. In some circumstances if the power cord is connected to an ungrounded outlet, there could be a remote risk of shock.

  4. How do I know if my outlet is grounded or ungrounded?

If you had to use a three prong adaptor to plug in your unit, then your outlet is not grounded. If you were able to plug in the 3 prong cord without an adaptor, your outlet likely is grounded. Note: All properly installed GFCI outlets are grounded. Three prong outlets that were properly installed should also be grounded.

  5. Has Samsung received any reports of injuries or deaths?

No. Samsung has not received any reports of injuries or deaths.
