The following variables can
prevent your Samsung home theater system from outputting audio through the rear
The media you are playing or watching (CD, DVD, TV

Each is discussed below.
Many media are recorded or
broadcast in stereo only and normally will only play through the front
speakers. CDs, for example, are always recorded in stereo and normally
play through the front speakers only. TV broadcasts and DVDs are sometimes also
Your home theater has a
feature - the PL II MODE - that can overcome this limitation, and make
the rear speakers output stereo sound.
To use the PL II Mode,
follow these directions:
When listening to CDs, press the [PL II
Mode] button on the home theater's remote control until the home theater's
display reads MUSIC.
When listening to a TV broadcast that is in
stereo, press the [PL II Mode] button until the home theater's
display reads MATRIX or PROLOGIC II.
When watching a DVD that doesn't have 5.1
surround sound, press [PL II Mode] button until the home theater's display reads CINEMA.
Note: If a DVD has 5.1 surround sound, make sure to
select the surround sound track from the DVD's main menu when you play it.
This is the same menu where you select PLAY FILM, SPECIAL FEATURES, AND
SET UP. Some DVDs play the stereo track by
default if no other
selections are made.
Your Audio Connections
Your audio connections
can affect the type of audio your home theater inputs and outputs. If you use
RCA audio cables to connect an audio source to the home theater, you will only
get stereo sound. This is true even if the source of the audio is recorded or
broadcast in surround sound. To get surround sound, you must use an
Optical or HDMI cable to connect the audio source to the home theater.

Audio sources include cable or satellite boxes, video game consoles,
and MP3 players.
Note: If the audio source does
not have an Optical or HDMI output connection, you must use RCA audio
cables. To get stereo audio from your rear speakers if you use RCA
cables, press the [PL II Mode] button until the home theater's display reads MATRIX
or PROLOGIC II. This allows
your rear speakers
to output stereo sound.
Your Speaker Connections
Your speaker connections
may also affect the audio you are hearing. If you are not getting any rear
audio and you have connected the speakers to your home theater system
with the speaker cables, make sure they are connected correctly. Verify the
jacks you are using on the rear of the home theater match up with the speakers
you are connecting. Also verify that the speaker cable is connected securely
into the speaker jacks.
SWA-3000 or SWA-4000 Wireless Accessories
and the SWA-4000 are optional accessories available for certain Samsung home
theaters that let you to connect your rear speakers to
the home theater system wirelessly. When using the SWA-3000 or the
SWA-4000, you must make sure it is installed correctly. If your home
theater system is compatible with the SWA-3000 or SWA-4000, your owner's manual
will have a step by step connection and setup guide for the wireless device.
Make sure you follow all the steps correctly and you establish a wireless link
before attempting to output audio from the rear speakers.
